The plain-English version

We're Butter Wash Co. — a residential pressure washing business based in Utica, Michigan. This policy explains what information we collect from you when you use our website or work with us, how we use it, and the choices you have. We tried to write this in plain English instead of legalese. If anything is unclear, text or email us and we'll explain.

Who we are

Butter Wash Co. is a residential exterior cleaning business operating in Macomb County, Michigan, and surrounding areas. You can reach us at:

When we say "we," "us," or "Butter Wash Co." in this policy, we mean the business. When we say "you" or "your," we mean the person visiting our website, requesting a quote, or hiring us.

What information we collect

We collect information in three ways: when you give it to us directly, when you interact with our website, and from a small number of third-party services we use to run the business.

Information you give us directly

When you request a quote, book a service, or contact us, we collect:

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • The physical address of the property you want serviced
  • Photos of the surfaces you want cleaned (if you choose to send them)
  • Notes or messages you include in the form
  • Your preferred contact method and scheduling preferences

When you hire us, we additionally collect:

  • Payment information (processed by a third-party payment processor — we do not store full credit card numbers on our systems)
  • Records of services performed at your property
  • Before-and-after photos taken during the service

Information collected automatically

When you visit our website, our analytics tool may collect:

  • Your IP address (used to approximate your city/region)
  • Your browser type and version
  • Your device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
  • The pages you visit on our site and how long you stay
  • The website that referred you to us
  • The date and time of your visit

We use a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use tracking cookies or build personal profiles across the web. We do not sell this data.

Information from third-party services

We use a small number of trusted services to run our business. These services may share information with us:

  • Form submission and lead management (our website backend)
  • SMS messaging (our text message provider, used to reply to your quote requests)
  • Email delivery (used to send quote confirmations and receipts)
  • Payment processing (used only when you pay for completed work)
  • Review platforms (when you leave a public review on Google or another platform)

A current list of these service providers is available on request — email us.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect for these specific purposes:

  • To send you a quote for the work you've requested
  • To reply to your questions or messages
  • To schedule and perform the services you hire us for
  • To process payment for completed work
  • To send you before-and-after photos and a final receipt
  • To follow up with you after a job to make sure you're satisfied
  • To send occasional service reminders (e.g. "your driveway is due for its annual wash") — only if you've previously been a customer
  • To improve our website and services based on aggregate usage data
  • To comply with our legal obligations (tax records, etc.)

We do NOT use your information to:

  • Sell it to third parties (we don't sell customer data, period)
  • Send you spam, promotional emails unrelated to our services, or messages on behalf of other businesses
  • Profile you for targeted advertising on other websites

Text messaging (SMS) — your consent

This section matters. Read it carefully.

When you submit your phone number through our quote form, our website, a text-us-a-photo link, or by texting us directly, you are giving us consent to send you text messages related to:

  • A reply to your quote request
  • Scheduling and confirming your appointment
  • Updates about the day of your service (e.g. "we're 30 minutes out")
  • A follow-up after the service is complete
  • Optional reminders for future services

You can opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message we send you. You can also opt back in by replying START. If you reply HELP, you'll receive our contact info.

Message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply. Message frequency varies — typically 2 to 6 messages per service interaction.

We will never send you promotional text messages on behalf of other businesses. We will never share your phone number with marketing companies.

Photos of your property

When you send us photos of your home or property as part of a quote request, those photos are used solely to provide an accurate quote and to prepare for the job.

When we perform a service at your property, we take before-and-after photos for our records and to send you. We may also use anonymized before-and-after photos (no street addresses, no identifying details) in our website gallery, social media, or marketing materials. We will never show your specific address or any personally identifying information in public photos.

If you do not want photos of your property used in our marketing materials even anonymously, just tell us — by text, email, or a note on your quote form — and we will exclude them.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as we have an ongoing business relationship with you, plus a reasonable period after to comply with our legal and tax obligations. Specifically:

  • Active customer records: kept for the duration of the relationship
  • Past customer records: kept for 7 years after the last service (matches federal tax record retention requirements)
  • Quote requests that did not become customers: kept for 2 years, then deleted
  • Website analytics data: kept in aggregate form only; individual session data is retained for no longer than 12 months

If you want us to delete your information sooner, see "Your rights" below.

How we protect your information

We take reasonable steps to protect the information you give us:

  • Our website uses HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
  • We store customer information in password-protected systems
  • We limit access to customer information to people who need it to do their job
  • Payment processing is handled by a PCI-compliant third-party processor — we never see or store your full credit card number
  • Physical records (paper quotes, invoices) are stored securely

No system is 100% secure. If we ever experience a data breach that affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.

Your rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • The right to know what information we have collected about you
  • The right to receive a copy of that information
  • The right to ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • The right to ask us to delete your information (subject to legal exceptions like tax records we are required to keep)
  • The right to opt out of text messages (reply STOP to any message)
  • The right to opt out of marketing communications
  • The right to non-discrimination — we will not refuse service or charge you more because you exercised any of these rights

To exercise any of these rights, email us at butterwashco@gmail.com or text us at (586) 604-0294. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have additional rights under your state's law.
